In his first year in the senior ranks, Byron Bay dirt bike racer, Tom McCormack, has surpassed all but the state's highest-ranked rider to finish second in the 2010 Yamaha Queensland Enduro Championship.

McCormack, 17, finished second at the final round of the series held at Cherrabah Resort (near Warwick) at the weekend.

The YZ250F rider also finished second at the first and second round of the championship, easily giving him enough points to snare the number two plate for 2011.

"I'll be really proud to run the number two plate on my bike next year," McCormack said.

"It feels great to finish where I did. I found the year really helpful, I learnt a lot over the year.

"I came into this year without any expectations, I just wanted to learn all I could.

"I think it worked out really well... now I just have to put it into play and come back stronger next year... I'm looking forward to next year, to see how I go."

McCormack said the YZ250F, which he had raced for two years, had "never let him down".

"It's amazing... I felt really comfortable on it and I really enjoyed riding it," he said.

"I still have a few Queensland races before the end of the year, so I'm looking forward to them.

"Then I'm flying to New Zealand to race a few races over there - I'm really excited about them.

"After that I'll have a couple weeks off, then just try and get ready for next year."

Tom's next race will be a Queensland Enduro-Cross this Sunday at Boonah. For more info go to www.qldenduro.com

Tom McCormack is the youngest rider to go straight to the pro class in Queensland enduro racing.

Tom has wasted no time establishing himself among the best in the sport, scoring second in the 2010 Yamaha Queensland Enduro Championship and third in the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) Championship E1 Class.

Tom's ultimate goal is to make the sport he loves his profession and become the fastest in Australia.
